Tips and Tricks to Style your Mommy and Me Photos.

Back in May I won a Mother’s Day giveaway hosted by the beautiful Andi from Lend Me Your Kite and her wonderful Momma Love Collective passion project. As part of the giveaway I won a Momma Love Collective box filled with wonderful goodies and also a free mini mommy and me shoot from Brenda Munoz Photography. If you follow me on social media I’m sure you have seen a few of the photos I have posted. Today I share with you a few others as well as tips and tricks to perfect your own mommy and me photos.

Should you match?

If you’re like me, you have searched on Pinterest cute family photo shoot ideas. Generally, the number one tip is not to match everyone. However, I think that in Mommy and Me shoots, this rule doesn’t apply. Nothing is cuter than seeing mommy and her little girl in matching tulle skirts or mommy and her boy rocking the same white chucks with jeans. I would have opted for the latter if I had not been pressed for time to plan our outfits. Instead of matching outfits, for this shoot I opted for Nick and I’s outfits to match within the same color scheme.

Chose a color scheme.

I knew I wanted Nick to wear either this pink button up or a pastel blue button up and with this in mind I ventured off to Ross on a Sunday morning to pick out a dress. Thankfully I was able to find this beautiful “Live 4 Truth” Maxi Wrap Around dress within minutes. I knew right away this was the dress and that the pink flowers would match beautifully with Nick’s pink shirt. I would recommend you chose one or two main colors and then add a pop of color to compliment. Here, I chose the pop of color to be pink while blue and brown (from the background, Nick’s shoes, and my hair lol) being the “main” colors.

Dress Comfortable & With Location in Mind.

I chose this beautiful park because I am in love with the wooden bridges. I had a specific look in mind … classy and timeless. I made sure Nick’s clothes were comfortable because the last thing I wanted was for him to get fussy. The shoes he wore were also cute but comfortable enough for him to run around in and release some energy. As for myself, I opted for a long dress because I knew there would be a lot of bending over and running behind my little guy. I wore these super comfortable Ugg wedges that went great with the dress but also made it easy for me to run around in.

If I had wanted the shoot to take place at a baseball field while nick and I ran around I would have worn some cute sneakers and of course different clothes. Remember, we all want to look cute in our pictures but comfort should be priority when dealing with little ones.

Bring Comfort.

What do I mean? Remember to bring with you an item to your shoot that brings your child comfort. Our “comfort item” was of course Nick’s Daniel Tiger plush toy. Our wonderful photographer was able to use it to grab his attention, make him laugh, and it was also useful while we chatted and he released some energy.

I loved the final product from our shoot. I have to say that Brenda did an amazing job despite the overcast weather. I cannot wait to frame several of these photos and hang them around my house. I hope you enjoyed our photos and that our tips help you prepare for yours. Let me know if you have any tips I may have missed and please share your photos with us. I would love to see your pretty faces!
