Chalkola – chalk markers | an honest review

I’m not going to lie, a few weeks back when Chalkola reach out to me for this collaboration I died a little. The kids and I love arts and crafts and the Chalkola products are a great addition for us. chalkboards and chalk as much as the next millennial family and I had been eyeing the various product that chalkola offers.

Chakola was so nice to send us a pack of 21 markers (which included 15 chalk pens and 6 metallic markers) as well as a chalkboard. As soon a you open the markers box up you can see the beautiful colors, which of course made us super excited to start playing around with them. We have now been using them them for a few weeks and we are sharing our thoughts on it.

This is a sponsored post in which I received free product for an honest review. All thoughts an opinions are 100% my own.

Who is Chalkola?

Chalkola is an arts and crafts brand that encourages pure, joyful, freedom of expression! My now five year old’s favorite subject in school is “Art,” and I loved finding a company like Chalkola who encourage our little ones to expand on their creative side. Chalkola strives to make art accessible to everyone and they do this by making sure that affordability and quality are two of their top concerns when creating new products. Their products are geared for both at home and professional use, so they’re pretty amazing.

Their philosophy is also pretty cool: live a vibrant life!

What Does Chalkola Offer?

Chalkola offers many products, from the basic chalk markers, chalkboards, and different art supplies. I think our next purchase from them will include the washable dot markers for kids, which also includes an activity book and the watercolor brush pens for me. If you’re a mom (or a teacher) you know those dot markers can get pretty expensive, but the ones Chalkola offers are a pretty good deal.

We were able to try 15 chalk pens and 6 metallic markers. The markers come with very cool features.

  • Suitable for various surfaces, not just chalkboards, such as glass, plastic, ceramic, wood, fabric, and the basic paper.
  • They have a reversible tip. You can chose between a chisel and a round nib.
  • Kid Safe: Xylene & Odor Free. | Did you know that Xylene is found on some marker pens and if one is poisoned with this it can affect your central nervous system, cause respiratory problems, induce nausea and vomiting, and irritate the eyes, nose and throat.
  • Vibrant colors, the colors are rich and probably the best I have seen in any of the chalk markers I have tried.
  • And the best thing of all for us moms? EASY TO CLEAN!! Wet Wipe Erasable

We were also able to try out Chalkola’s Rustic ChalkBoard Sign, which has a magnetic surface so this will come in handy this fall when I am once again my son’s teacher. #quarantinelife

The Final Verdict?

At first I was hesitant about the pens, if I am completely honest. But this is mainly due to my lack of patience. When you first use the makers you have to give them a good shake to allow the ink to travel down to the nib. While it does not take that long, it made it a little difficult because my two children also lack patience. Once we were able to get the markers ready to use, we were in love.

Something I appreciated was that they do not ruin the chalkboard. I had used other chalk markers with my oldest son and because he pushes down on them our chalkboards would get scratched. That did not happen with the Chalkola markers. He also really loved all of the colors because it truly did allow him to express himself.

This was actually a win for me because we have been focusing on phonics and writing his name. He has been so excited about using the markers that he doesn’t flinch when I say its time to practice our spelling. #momwin

Our little one, who is now 10 months old, has also gotten in on the action. It makes me feel good knowing the markers are safe for them and easy to clean.

We have used the markers in different ways which I think is brilliant for parents. The more use we can get out of an item, the better.

  • We used to practice his spelling. We draw a picture of an anima. I say the word out loud so that he can hear what letters are in the word. He then spells it out. Here he was able to spell “bird”

  • We used it to play a game we made up called “letter, animal, name, activity.” To play this game, I have him chose a few different letters. Then we have to chose an animal, a name, and an activity that all start with the same letter. He’s silly and here you can see he chose “Pinguo the Penguin was Playing.”

  • We used the chalkboard and pens to make a small road for our toys.

  • We were able to use our makers to decorate our car’s windows for a little friend’s birthday parade.

Full disclosure, it takes a few seconds for the markers to dry. If you touch it before it will smudge. This is probably the only downside, but its still definitely less of a mess than if we used actual chalk.
